Choose operation mode

Select the mode that matches your hardware. You can change this later in Settings.

Standard

Direct temperature probe (NTC) or flow sensor available. Best accuracy.

Recommended

Simple

Shelly 1PM + up to 3 temperature probes. No flow sensor needed.

Shelly only

Boiler switch & power meter

Select the switch entity that controls the boiler relay. The power meter entity enables HDO detection and temperature estimation.

The switch or input_boolean controlling the boiler relay (e.g. switch.boiler)
Please select a switch entity.
Sensor reporting boiler wattage (e.g. sensor.boiler_power). Recommended — enables HDO learning and level-2 temperature estimation.

Temperature sensors

Select temperature sensors. The add-on uses the best available source.

Temperature probe inside the thermostat pocket — most accurate. Skipping uses power feedback estimation instead.
External sensor on the boiler case. Used as fallback for water temp estimation.
Flow sensor in L/min. Enables direct consumption measurement.
Temperature of outgoing hot water. Used together with the flow sensor.

Temperature sensor in the boiler room. If set, the thermal model uses live readings instead of the static average ambient value.

Optional entities

These improve scheduling but are not required. You can skip this step and configure later.

Sensor reporting available PV surplus in watts (positive = surplus). When surplus is detected, heating is prioritised free of charge.
Select person or device_tracker entities for presence-aware scheduling. Click multiple to add.
HA calendar entity for vacation and boost events (e.g. calendar.boiler). Leave empty to disable.

Boiler parameters

Physical parameters of your boiler. Check the label on the tank or your installation documents.

Typical: 80–200 L
Typical: 1500–3000 W
Recommended: 55–65 °C (legionella)
Add-on won't let temp drop below this
Room temperature around the boiler

Optional integrations

Configure spot prices, HDO ripple control, and InfluxDB cold-start bootstrap. All optional — you can skip and configure later in Settings.

Spot price scheduling Schedules heating during cheapest hours using energy-charts.info day-ahead prices.

Hours when the grid operator blocks the relay (HDO / ripple control). Leave empty to auto-detect from relay "unavailable" state.

Setup complete!

SmartBoiler is starting up. The controller will begin collecting data and learning your usage patterns.

The predictor needs at least 30 days of data before ML-based scheduling activates.
