Ned confronts Cersei, revealing he knows Jaime fathered her children and will tell Robert. King Robert is mortally wounded by a boar while hunting. On his deathbed, Robert names Ned regent until Joffrey comes of age, but Ned writes 'my rightful heir' instead of Joffrey's name. Ned sends word to Stannis Baratheon, Robert's brother and legal heir. After Robert's death, Ned confronts Cersei and Joffrey in the throne room, but Littlefinger and the City Watch betray Ned and attack his men. At the Wall, Benjen Stark disappears during a ranging beyond the Wall. Jon and Sam are assigned as stewards, with Jon serving Lord Commander Mormont personally. In Essos, Ser Jorah exposes Robert's hired assassin before he can poison Daenerys. Drogo vows to conquer Westeros for his unborn son and begins marching toward the coast.
